This year the weather in the UK has been quite poorly and the garden has not been as it best. Winter was very bad with heavy frost and killed some of the plants in the garden. The rain and the wind has made flowers difficult to grow and some are coming later than expected. Foxes and cats also have damaged some of the plants. But there is still some hope for the summer. And more things to do all "Gardens are not made by singing 'Oh, how beautiful,' and sitting in the shade. Last year I decided to prune the trees very hard, so I could have more light in my garden during the summer. Now a year later I have cut the trees again. It is surprising how much they had grown in just one year. I hope I have done it well this time..."Pruning is the most common tree maintenance procedure. Although forest trees grow quite well with only nature's pruning, landscape trees require a higher level of care to maintain their safety and aesthetics. Pruning should be done with an understanding of how the tree responds to each cut. Improper pruning can cause damage that will last for the life of the tree, or worse, shorten the tree's life." This week after 6 years it's the patio makeover and I hope that the result would be a good one. Choosing the slabs was a big decision, but with the right colour and sizes it will make the area a wonderful space to relax and entertain.
Easter came and the idea was to repair one of the bed-plants walls that when I bought the house it was not there... so we decided to give it a go. Friday we dig the space and we placed the foundations, pouring some concrete into it and Saturday was bricklaying day, getting some old bricks from my neighbour. Attended Easter mass on Sunday and finished adding the coping to the wall. I was very glad with the effort and the result. But this is just the start of a long design project. Anyone want to help? LOL Twilight Garden - Lia Leendertz Some say that the twilight hours are the best time to enjoy a garden; a time when the spirit of the place really comes alive. It is also the time when many people pass front gardens on their return home, have a few spare minutes for garden maintenance, or want to enjoy the garden for entertaining. Full of easy maintenance advice, planting ideas for evening fragrance, colour, lighting, design, and attracting wildlife, this is a book for how people garden now. Front gardens, terraces, larger plots and containers will all be covered in an attempt to inspire everyone to transform their outdoor space into a twilight paradise. After neglecting the garden for two months I needed to tidy it up and buy some new plants. The old plants needed to be resited as they had grown very big and they were crowding each other and some others were in need of pruning. I also cut the front hedge quite drastically so I won't need to touch it until June or July. However, the garden still need a lot of things to be done in the next few weeks. Oh, forgot to cut the grass ! The picture shows one of the trees in the garden that is in bloom. It only remains like this for two or three days. |
